The Nakaya Dorsal Fin Version 2 in Toki-tamenuri is hand-finished in natural urushi lacquer over an ebonite body - the fins on the cap and barrel are created by applying multiple layers of urushi lacquer over a period of months.
The Dorsal Fin is one of the most time-intensive models produced by Nakaya - the finish with distinctive fin shape on each pen can require up to a year to be produced by skilled artisans in the traditional craft center of Wajima on the west coast of Japan. The pen utilizies Nakaya's convenient cartridge-converter system.
Comes in a special paulownia softwood presentation decorated with kanji-style script. A fabric pen kimono and starter pack of ink cartridges are included along with the converter.
